Shoe Fitting 101
By Beau Avery

Let me ask you a simple question about your shoes. Are you 100% sure that the shoes you are wearing are the right size for your feet? Many people are not aware that the problems they experience with their feet are directly related to small or tight fitting shoes.

Remember when you were young and your mother or father would take you to the store to buy you some new shoes? Depending on the store you went to, a customer service person would have measured your feet using a Foot Measuring Device. Then they would have suggested that your parents buy you a pair of shoes one half size larger than your foot in order for you to "grow into the shoes." Well today the number of shoe stores that will take the time to measure your feet properly are few and far between. Sure, you can still find a Foot Measuring Device in any retail chain, but how many people really know how to use it properly? Many people simply stand in the device, look at the length of their feet, and buy shoes that are the exact same size. And while sizes do vary slightly from manufacturer to manufacturer, most people will tend to buy shoes that barely fit their feet.

Did you know that your feet never stop changing? The width and length of your feet can change from year to year depending on activity, weight, and age. That is why it is so important to know the size of your feet acurately, and that you buy shoes that are at least one half size larger than your feet. A general "rule of thumb" is to allow one thumb's width space between the end of your longest toe and the end of the shoe.

At Foot Professional we guarantee a good fit. Our staff takes the time necessary to measure your feet properly and recommend a size that will support your feet, and allow them enough room to breathe and feel comfortable. With proper fitting shoes your feet will love you. And as we all know, happy feet make for a happy person.
